Anodising is used to strengthen and protect the surface of aluminium. It is an electrochemical process that builds up a layer of super-hard alumina on the surface of the material. Bright and metallic colours are created by dyeing this porous ceramic surface layer in a process known as 'dip and dye'. It is widely used in premium consumer products due to the durability and metallic feel of the colour. It is possible to anodise and colour all types of surface finish from bright polished to blasted and brushed.
